Krystal Smith

Krystal is a doctoral student in Higher Education and an IES Fellow. Her research focuses on two related areas. First, she studies the moral development of college students, particularly how students’ moral and social commitments evolve as they transition into adulthood. Second, she studies the role of higher education institutions in shaping moral, social, and political trends in American society. She is currently a Graduate Fellow in the Ethics Center and in Branner Hall, Stanford’s public service dorm. She has a bachelor’s and a master’s in social work from NC State University. Before Stanford, she worked in the nonprofit sector, helping students and faculty host large-scale moral and civic dialogues at 30+ universities across the Western United States.
