Kemi Oyewole

Kemi A. Oyewole (koyewole@stanford.edu) is a Ph.D. candidate in education policy and organization studies at the Stanford Graduate School of Education. Her research explores the ways K12 school districts cultivate leaders and create structures in support of equitable education systems. Kemi studies these issues in educational leadership and educational policy implementation as a collaborative mixed methodologist: using qualitative and quantitative methods in close partnership with community organizations. Her three-paper dissertation outlines the cross-sectional structure, energizing dynamics, and longitudinal evolution of a 45-member instructional coach network with observation, interview, and social network data.

Prior to arriving at Stanford, Kemi worked as a mathematics teacher in Boston Public Schools and completed the Boston Teacher Residency. She graduated from Spelman College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and mathematics, earned a Master of Education degree from the University of Massachusetts at Boston, and completed a Master of Arts in sociology at Stanford University. Kemi has been awarded the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, Truman Scholarship, Stanford Vice Provost for Graduate Education/Black Community Services Center Distinguished Scholar Award, and Stanford Alumni Association Community Impact Award.
