Children's achievement-related expectancies as a function of academic performance histories and sex

High-, average-, and low-achieving boys and girls in the first and third grades were compared on their expectations for success prior to an anagrams task; their subsequent perceptions of the cause of failure on the task; and their expectations for future success.
