Research Priorities for Broad-Access Higher Education
Michael Kirst and colleagues on Broad-Access Higher Education: A Research Agenda for a New Era

We conduct and encourage research that:

  • explains the origins the great turbulence in US higher education today
  • replaces prevailing appraisals of college quality based on selectivity with new ones based on access
  • identifies efficient levers for improving college performance
  • clarifies the rapidly changing relationships between broad-access schools and their environments

We have catalyzed new conversations and research among faculty, practitioners, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students to better understand what is known, and what must be learned, about broad-access higher education. Synthetic reports of these conversations are available here.
